Tawara-Gaeshi is a rice bag reversal throw used against a low attack. The attacker reaches over the back of an opponent who is crouching. Both hands grab the belt or the sides of the uniform jacket. The player then falls backward while pulling the opponent over the head. This motion resembles the act of tossing a heavy bag of grain. One game example involves a player countering a double leg takedown attempt. This move requires the attacker to commit fully to the backward fall. Success depends on the timing of the lift and the body roll. The defender travels through the air and lands on the back surface. Strategy involves using the momentum of the diving opponent to finish the throw. This technique is a very effective way to defend against lower attacks.
