Thirds refer to the three equal sections that divide the netball court into different playing zones. These are called the goal thirds at each end and the center third in the middle. Transverse lines mark the boundaries between these areas to restrict player movement based on their position. Each player position has specific thirds they are allowed to enter during the course of play. A goal keeper must stay within the defensive goal third and the adjacent goal third area. Understanding these boundaries is essential for avoiding offside violations and maintaining a balanced team structure. These zones ensure that the game remains organized and that every player fulfills their unique role. One real-world example shows a wing attack standing just behind the line of the center third.
