Threshold Set Meaning in Swimming

A threshold set is a high-intensity training block designed to improve a swimmer’s aerobic capacity. These sets require the athlete to swim at a pace that is challenging but can be maintained for a long duration. This training helps the body become more efficient at handling the buildup of fatigue during a race. A swimmer completes ten sets of two hundred meters at their threshold pace with minimal rest. It is often considered the ‘engine-building’ part of a swimming workout. Consistent threshold training allows a swimmer to hold a faster speed for longer periods without getting exhausted.
