Touch-and-go refers to a method of performing multiple repetitions where the barbell barely taps the floor between lifts. The athlete does not reset their grip or posture and instead uses the slight bounce to start the next rep. This technique builds high levels of muscular endurance and keeps the heart rate elevated throughout the entire training set. It is commonly used in high intensity conditioning workouts rather than for maximum strength or perfect technical practice. A lifter completes ten repetitions of the power clean by quickly touching the plates to the rubber gym mats. This style allows for a higher volume of work to be finished in a much shorter period of time. Most competitive weightlifters avoid this during heavy sessions to ensure they practice the correct start for every single lift.
