Trim Meaning in Surfing

Trim involves finding the perfect balance point on a surfboard for maximum speed. The surfer adjusts their weight forward or backward to keep the board flat. Proper trim allows the board to glide effortlessly without any dragging or slowing. This state of efficiency is most noticeable on longboards during a long ride. The board feels like it is hovering on the surface of the water. Small movements of the feet or head can change the trim of boards. A surfer stands perfectly still while trimming across a fast and glassy wave. Maintaining trim helps the athlete travel through flat sections of the ocean swell. One rider leans forward slightly to increase the speed of the longboard. Efficiency in trim represents the core of traditional and stylish surfing techniques today.
