Uchi-Makikomi Meaning in Judo

Uchi-Makikomi is an inner winding throw that involves a heavy rolling motion forward. The attacker steps between the legs and wraps the arm of the defender. Both players roll to the mat together as the attacker rotates the body. The weight of the attacker drives the defender onto their back surface. One game example shows a player using this move to finish a match. This technique ensures the opponent cannot escape the pull of the winding arm. The attacker must commit the entire body to the downward spinning action. Proper execution results in a high score and a dominant ground position. Strategy involves using the momentum of the defender to increase the rotation speed. This throw is very effective for players who prefer a powerful finish.
