Uchi-Mata-Gaeshi-Makikomi Meaning in Judo

Uchi-Mata-Gaeshi-Makikomi is a counter inner thigh throw with a winding finish. The defender reverses the initial attack and wraps the arm of the opponent. Both players roll to the ground together in a single fluid motion. The defender uses the weight of the body to ensure a high score. One game example shows a player finishing a match with this rolling counter. This technique is very difficult to escape once the winding action begins. The player must commit the entire torso to the downward spinning rotation. Proper execution leads directly into a dominant pinning position on the mat surface. Strategy involves using the momentum of the fall to secure the final win. This move provides a powerful way to end a difficult defensive exchange.
