Uchi-Mata-Gaeshi is a counter technique used against an inner thigh throw attempt. The defender feels the attacker starting to lift with the inner leg. Instead of falling, the defender shifts the weight to the supporting foot. A sudden reversal of force allows the defender to throw the attacker. One game example shows a player scoring after being attacked with Uchi-Mata. This move requires the defender to have very fast reactions and balance. Success depends on the timing of the shift in the center of gravity. Strategy involves using the momentum of the attacker to complete the counter move. This technique turns a dangerous situation into a winning opportunity for the player. It teaches athletes how to stay grounded under a strong physical attack.
