Uchi-Mata is an inner thigh throw performed by sweeping the leg upward. The attacker places the hip against the midsection of the standing opponent. One leg swings high between the thighs of the defender to lift. This action tosses the opponent in a wide arc onto the floor. One game example involves a player scoring a full point with this move. This throw requires the attacker to have excellent balance on the supporting leg. Success depends on getting the hips close to the center of the defender. Proper execution involves a strong pull on the sleeve and the lapel. Strategy involves waiting for the opponent to lean forward or stand with legs. This technique is one of the most spectacular and common throws in judo.
