Uchi-Otoshi Meaning in Judo

Uchi-Otoshi is an inner drop throw that relies on hand and body coordination. The attacker pulls the defender forward and down while stepping to the side. This motion disrupts the center of gravity without any leg or hip contact. The defender falls forward onto the mat because of the sudden downward force. One game example involves a player scoring by pulling the opponent off balance. This technique requires the attacker to have very sensitive and active arm movements. Success depends on finding the weak point in the stance of the defender. The player must use a sharp and continuous motion to achieve the fall. Strategy involves moving the opponent into a vulnerable position before the final pull. This throw demonstrates the effective use of hand leverage during standing combat.
