Ude-Garami is an entangled arm lock that targets the shoulder and elbow joints. The attacker wraps one arm over and under the arm of the defender. Grabbing the own wrist creates a strong lever to twist the limb. This pressure forces the opponent to tap the mat for a submission win. One game example involves a player winning from a side pinning position. The attacker must keep the elbow of the opponent at a right angle. Proper execution requires the player to keep the chest close to the defender. Success depends on the slow and controlled application of the twisting force. Strategy involves isolating the arm before the defender can roll to escape. This technique is a standard and effective tool for ground fighting.
