An underarm shot is a scoring technique where the ball is released low. The player swings their arm below the waist to surprise the defensive block. This release point is much lower than the standard overarm or jump shot. It is effective for shooting through the legs of tall and stationary defenders. The ball travels on a flat or rising path toward the bottom corners. An attacker uses an underarm shot to score while the defense has arms. This move requires strong wrists and a very quick and deceptive arm motion. Goalkeepers often find these shots difficult to see until the ball is close. Practice focuses on the timing and the disguise of the low throwing motion. The underarm shot adds a unique and effective layer to a player’s skills.
