A volley in football is a striking technique where a player meets and directs the ball with their foot while it is still in the air before it touches the ground.
This often produces powerful and unpredictable shots or passes that can bypass defenders and challenge goalkeepers, and it requires excellent timing and coordination.
A half‑volley occurs when the player strikes the ball just after it bounces, and both variations are used to maintain play speed without needing first to trap the ball.
