A warm-up lane is a designated area in a pool used specifically for getting the body ready to race. During a meet, these lanes remain open while races are happening so athletes can stay loose or ‘cool down’ after an event. There are strict rules in these lanes, such as swimming in a circle and avoiding diving, to prevent collisions. A swimmer jumps into the warm-up lane to get their heart rate up ten minutes before their heat. These lanes are essential for maintaining peak performance throughout a long, multi-event day. Following the flow of the lane ensures every athlete stays safe and focused before their turn on the blocks.
